GAZA CITY — The Gaza Media Office issued a stark warning on Saturday about an impending humanitarian disaster for 2 million displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as winter approaches.
According to the office, 74% of the tents used for displaced people are no longer suitable for use. Government field assessment teams reported that out of 135,000 tents, 100,000 require immediate replacement due to deterioration from the sun’s heat and harsh climate conditions. After 11 months of continuous displacement, these tents have become uninhabitable.
The office warned that with the arrival of winter, the situation threatens to leave 2 million people without adequate shelter. The closure of crossings by Israel has prevented the entry of approximately 250,000 tents and caravans into Gaza.
The Gaza Media Office is calling on the international community, including UN and Arab organizations, to provide urgent relief to the displaced population and to pressure Israel to cease its actions, which they describe as genocidal.
Since last October’s Hamas attack, Israel has maintained a brutal offensive on Gaza, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire. The conflict has resulted in nearly 41,200 deaths, mostly women and children, and over 95,200 injuries. The blockade has caused severe shortages of food, water, and medicine.
Israel is facing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza. — Agencies
